WHAT IS DENTAL HYGIENE AND WHY SHOULD WE GET IT?

The Dental hygiene is to remove the Dental Tartar (Calculus) by dental instruments. The Dental Hygiene can be done only by a qualified dental Hygienist or a Dentist.

The mouth is the gateway to our body, whatever we eat, it goes through it. The Dental Hygiene helps keep our mouth clean and healthy.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DENTAL PLAQUE AND DENTAL TARTAR?

The dental plaque is a tenacious thin creamish layer on the teeth surfaces and on the tongue which can be removed with brushing your teeth and flossing.

The Dental Tartar (Calculus) is a hard mineralized layer attached to teeth surface varies in colour from light yellow to dark yellow, brown, and grey. It can NOT be removed with brushing your teeth.

IS DENTAL TARTER HARMFUL FOR YOUR TEETH?

Yes, it may cause gum disease which may lead to underlying bone loss and ultimately leading to tooth loss.

HOW OFTEN WE SHOULD GET DENTAL HYGIENE?

Normally it is advised to get the Dental Hygiene twice (2 times) a year but once a year is a must.

Some patients may need it more frequently such as Diabetic, old patients, patients with crooked teeth, and patients taking medicines which decrease saliva.

CAN WE DO OUR DENTAL HYGIENE AT HOME AND NOT TO VISIT THE DENTAL CLINIC?

No, you need to visit dental office to get your dental hygiene done by a qualified professional, although you have to brush your teeth twice and flossing once daily.
