WHAT IS THE TEETH HYPERSENSITIVITY?

Teeth hypersensitivity is a common condition of teeth where a patient may experience transient discomfort or pain when teeth are subjected to temperature change especially with cold and sweetness.

The areas of the teeth near the gums are the most common sites for hypersensitivity.

WHAT ARE THE REASONS FOR TEETH HYPERSENSITIVITY?

The REASONS may include:

-Tooth decay (Cavity) when the decay crosses the outer hardest layer of tooth (Enamel)

- Gum recession ( Gums recede due to lack of dental hygiene)

-Cracks/fractured portion of the teeth

-Some dental procedure may also cause teeth hypersensitivity for a short amount of time, for exampleafter the dental hygiene, the filling of a deep cavity, crown Preparation of a tooth, high filling and etc

-Trauma

- The tooth substance loss is due to:

Erosion (Tooth wear due to chemical) for example Gastric regurgitation, sucking lemon.

Abrasion (Tooth wear due to use of Hard tooth brushing and

dentifrices.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT FOR TEETH HYPERSENSITIVITY?

The treatment for Hypersensitivity depends on the cause which may vary from the application of someDesensitizers (Chemicals), to the restorations. For example Hygiene, Filling, Crown, Night Guard and complete Bite rehabilitation.

Attrition ( Grinding of teeth) while sleeping, Bruxism and clenching the teeth.

Abfraction ( due to excessive chewing load on the teeth)
